Design and building experience.

Beeton Architects is a small design-focused practice located in Black Rock – an area with a strong history of Modernist residential design. Beeton Architects design light, timeless and sustainable buildings. Specialising in new homes, extensions and public architecture, each design is responsive to the client’s brief and local conditions.

The studio is led by Natalie and Simon Beeton, who are residents of the local area with their young family. Both Natalie and Simon are influenced by their love of the natural environment, and the modernist design history of Beaumaris and Black Rock. Their strong design philosophy is echoed through the studio’s daily design process and resulting built work.

Natalie Beeton
Architect + Director

B.Arch(Hons) & B.Construct.Mgt.(Hons)

Natalie Beeton is a registered Architect. Not shy of creating a strong design concept to improve the functionality and efficiency of spaces, she gives thoughtful consideration to how light, proportions, materials and colour can bring a space to life.

Natalie’s formative years were spent working with an award winning, design-focused Melbourne practice on public and educational projects. In 2014, Natalie moved to Melbourne’s Bayside and joined John Alkemade Architects where she worked closely with John and their residential clients.

In 2019, Natalie took over the practice to continue providing excellent service to local residents, and to see the results of good design improving the built environment. The practice was re-named ‘Beeton Architects’ early in 2022.

"Many thanks for your help with everything Natalie, we are very much looking forward to the next stage. We feel very fortunate to have come across you with your ability to make our dreams a reality.”

– W.Nilson, Beaumaris

Simon Beeton
Architect + Director

B.Arch & B.Construct.Mgt.(Hons)

Simon Beeton is a registered Architect with strong attention to design, detail, materials, and structure. His passion for the outdoors and the environment is reflected in sustainability being central to all elements of his work.

Previously a Senior Associate at a large design-focused Melbourne firm, Simon has been involved in numerous Victorian Institute of Architects’ Award-winning projects. After 14 years, it was time for a sea-change, joining Natalie in the Black Rock office early in 2020.

Prior to studying architecture, Simon was a carpenter/builder and has worked hands-on across many residential homes and extensions. He brings this real-life construction experience into the practice and every project.

"We loved the thoughtful way you approached design…We chose Beeton Architects for our commercial project because they were local to us, and were an approachable team, who seemed to really understand our brief and were well experienced in similar projects .”

Design principles:

  • We appreciate the modernist design principles of light, space, and materiality.

Our designs are beautiful and timeless; the forms are simple yet bold, and human-scaled. We use colour and natural materials to complement the design and reflect your personality, and take cues from the surrounding environment.

  • From the concept stage through to construction, we utilise sustainable and passive design principles to minimise the environmental footprint of buildings, and their energy use. Through orientation, we maximise the effects of the warming sun and cooling breezes. Applying sustainable design principles from the start is critical. We focus on spatially efficient designs that improve energy efficiency, and reduce the cost of construction.

We see the importance of applying these design principles through every design and construction stage. It results in buildings that are comfortable and a pleasure to use – for today and into the future. Investing time and money on quality design results in a far more valuable building.

  • We pride ourselves on creating excellent design solutions that are buildable and cost effective. The hands-on building experience of the team ensures buildability is at the forefront of all decisions without loss of the overall design intent.

  • Our designs have a unique and special character; they are engaging and reflect the personalities and ways of life of our clients. Our designs are also influenced by features in the surrounding landscape and environment. Developing designs from this basis means they remain timelessly functional and uniquely beautiful, not based on transient trends. This adds value to the building for the long term.

  • We are a small, tight-knit team, allowing us to work closely with every client to deliver a personal and professional service. We have many years of experience guiding homeowners along the journey from initial design ideas to final building completion.

We have a clear, structured, and friendly approach to communication between Architect, clients, builder, and our consultants. We see this as the key to the success of your project.
